1. Editorial Independence

OxalateWatch is editorially independent. We do not accept payments, sponsorships, or advertising that influences food safety ratings, data presentation, or editorial content. Our revenue model does not depend on promoting specific foods, diets, supplements, or medical products.

2. Content Types and Roles

Our content is produced and maintained through three distinct roles:

Data Editor — Responsible for accurate transcription, mapping, and formatting of oxalate and nutrition data from source databases. Verifies that every food entry maps to a verifiable source record.
Content Author — Writes blog articles, food descriptions, FAQ content, and educational material. Authors are identified on applicable pieces.
Editorial Reviewer — Reviews blog articles and substantive content changes for factual accuracy, source attribution, and consistency with clinical guidelines. Currently performed by the OxalateWatch Editorial Team.

3. Data Sourcing Standard

Oxalate data: Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health Oxalate Database (2024), compiled by Dr. John Knight, published through the Oxalosis & Hyperoxaluria Foundation (OHF). All values are lab-measured via validated methods (primarily ion chromatography).

Nutrition data: USDA FoodData Central (SR Legacy 2018 and Foundation Foods). Each food is matched to a specific USDA FDC ID where available.

Clinical references: Guidelines from the National Kidney Foundation (NKF), American Urological Association (AUA), and peer-reviewed literature indexed in PubMed.

4. Review Process

Food pages: Reviewed at data import. Re-reviewed when source database is updated.
Blog content: Reviewed by an editorial reviewer before or shortly after publication. Every factual claim linking a health outcome to dietary behavior must reference a specific published study, guideline, or institutional data source.
Static pages (About, Methodology, Terms, this page): Reviewed when created and re-reviewed upon any substantive revision.

5. Correction Policy

If an error is identified in any content — whether in a food data point, blog article, or static page — we correct it promptly. Significant corrections are logged on our Corrections page with the date, nature of the error, and the correction made.

6. Blog Content Standards

Our blog articles connect kidney stone science to real-world events, lifestyle, and practical dietary strategies. All blog posts must:

Base health claims on published research, official guidelines, or institutional data — not speculation
Clearly distinguish between research findings, editorial analysis, and areas of uncertainty
Reference sources with sufficient detail that a reader can locate and verify the original
Avoid presenting correlation as causation when linking external events (economic, political, environmental) to individual health outcomes

7. AI and Automation Disclosure

We use computational tools to format and structure data for display. However, all final content — including food descriptions, safety ratings, and blog articles — is reviewed by a human editorial team. We do not publish unreviewed AI-generated content that makes factual claims about health, nutrition, or medicine.

8. Conflict of Interest

OxalateWatch has no financial relationships with food manufacturers, supplement companies, pharmaceutical firms, or healthcare providers that could influence content. Any future relationships that could be perceived as conflicts will be disclosed on the affected pages.
